Banning, incorporated in 1913, is a small city in Riverside County located in the San Gorgonio Pass, also known as the Banning Pass. Banning is located adjacent to Beaumont approximately 50 miles east of downtown Los Angeles and about 25 miles west of Palm Springs. Banning borders the Morongo Indian Reservation.

Beaumont, incorporated in 1912, is a small city located at the summit of the San Gorgonio Pass adjacent to Banning. The San Bernardino Mountains and Mount San Gorgonio are to the north and the San Jacinto Mountains and Jacinto Peak are to the south.

The San Gorgonio Pass or Banning Pass is a gap between the San Bernardino Mountains to the north and the San Jacinto Mountains to the south. The pass connects the greater Los Angeles region to the Coachella Valley which includes such cities as Palm Springs, Rancho Mirage, and Indio, as well as the Salton Sea and Imperial Valley which are further to the south.

The pass has consistently high winds and is home to the San Gorgonio Pass Wind Farm.

 

Mount San Jacinto - San Jacinto Peak

Mount San Jacinto, also known as San Jacinto peak, is a 10,834-foot mountain in the San Jacinto Mountains in Riverside County. The mountain is located within the Mount San Jacinto State Park and is on the southern border of the San Jacinto Pass. The peak is one of the most prominent peaks in the United States and towers over Palm Springs in the Coachella Valley. It can be seen from the Salton Sea and much of the Inland Empire. Hiking to the peak usually starts with a ride on the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway in Palm Springs.

 

San Jacinto River

The San Jacinto River is a 42-mile-long river in Riverside County with its headwaters in the San Jacinto Mountains. The river flows into Lake Hemet which discharges water into Canyon Lake also known as Railroad Canyon Reservoir.

 

San Gorgonio Wilderness - San Gorgonio Mountain

San Gorgonio Mountain, also known as Mountain San Gorgonio and Old Greyback is the highest mountain peak in Southern California. The mountain which rises to 11,503 feet above sea level is located within the San Bernardino Mountains and the San Gorgonio Wilderness. The San Gorgonio Wilderness begins north of the San Gorgonio Pass about two miles west of Morongo Valley and ten miles northwest of Palm Springs.

 

San Gorgonio River

The San Gorgonio River is a 26.8-mile-long river in San Bernardino County and Riverside County. Its headwaters originate in the San Bernardino Mountains southwest of San Gorgonio Mountain. The river flows through Banning Canyon and the City of Banning before it joins the Whitewater River in the western Coachella Valley.

 

Banning Municipal Airport

Banning Municipal Airport is a 141-acre city-owned airport located approximately one mile southeast of the City of Banning in Riverside County. The airport has one runway. Annual aircraft operations currently exceed 5,500.

 

Banning Chamber of Commerce

The Banning Chamber of Commerce is dedicated to promoting a vibrant business environment with cooperative interaction among businesses, government, and the overall community. The chamber promotes tourism in Banning and participates with the overall community, and other organizations, including other chambers of commerce. The Banning Chamber offers its members regular networking events, educational opportunities, and the ability to be included in an excellent business directory. Members of the chamber are based in Banning, Beaumont, the Coachella Valley, Yucaipa, and Redlands.
